Description

French-scrape Cor anglais Reeds

Our French-scrape Cor anglais reeds are supple and responsive. Although well balanced, they also speak easily in the second octave. They have a somewhat richer vibration in the higher frequences than the German-scrape reeds. Air circulates rapidly within the reed, requiring less physical effort. Their W-scrape is beween 11 and 11.5 mm long.

Compared with the U-shaped German scrape, they are less open because of the Reed Shaper style, and because the scrape is flatter.

The tip is longer and thins out very gradually.
The central spine is well defined, to preserve resistance and aperture stability. These reeds are slightly longer (approximately 58mm).

Note : Our hand-finished reeds undergo a production process lasting several weeks, extending from the initial tying on of the cane all the way to final testing. Each phase of this process is carried out exclusively by our own oboe specialists in our studio.

Once pre-selection, pre-gouging, and gouging of the cane has been carried out, we use a profiling machine by Kunibert Michel, equipped with a RC template. From this stage onwards, all processing is done exclusively by hand. The reeds are tested twice before being offered for sale.

All Cor anglais reeds are tested on a Mönnig 180 Diamante instrument with a Lorée plaqué or #2H crook.
