Professional « Custom made »
reeds for oboe, oboe d’amore and Cor anglais.
Le Roseau Chantant professional « Custom made » reeds are crafted starting with superior quality cane, in medium hard (MH) to medium-soft (MS) strengths. (The MH reeds are sometimes made with harder cane.)
These reeds, which are finished by hand, undergo a production process lasting several weeks, extending from the initial tying on of the cane all the way to final testing. Each phase of this process is carried out exclusively by our oboe specialists in our studio.
Once pre-selection, pre-gouging and gouging of the cane has been carried out, we use profiling machines from Reeds’n Stuff, Chiarugi, and Kunibert Michel (for Cor anglais reeds). These machines are all mounted with Roseau Chantant (RC) shapes. From this stage onwards, all processing is done exclusively by hand. The reeds are tested twice before being offered for sale.

All oboe reeds are tested on a Marigaux oboe model 901.
Oboe d’amore reeds are tested on a Mönnig AM 170 instrument with a Mönnig #1 crook.
Cor anglais reeds are tested on a Mönnig 180 Diamante instrument with a Lorée #2H crook.
Le Roseau Chantant Student Reeds
Le Roseau Chantant student reeds are made by hand in our studios with superior quality cane. They are easy to play on, have excellent tone, and are recommended for students from beginner to advanced levels.
The reeds have a short, U-shaped scrape, and an adjustable wire ligature to enable fine control of the aperture.

The reeds are available in 3 strengths: soft (S); medium (M); and medium hard (MH). All student reeds are tested.
Le Roseau Chantant Reed Blanks
Le Roseau Chantant reed blanks (tied-on only, non-scraped reeds) are made with superior quality cane in medium hard (MH), medium (M), and medium-soft (MS) strengths. (The MH reeds are sometimes made with harder cane.)
Those made in the German style are shaped with RC12 or RC12*, or RC13 or RC13* shapers, and are mounted on RC2 staples.
These reeds are available in three different strengths: Medium Soft (MS), with 10.75 – 11mm diameter tube cane; Medium (M), with 10.5 – 10.75mm diameter tube cane; and Medium Hard (MH), with 10.25 – 10.5mm diameter cane.

We apply varying measurement relationships between the centre and the sides of the reed, depending on the cane qualities and the desired reed strength.
Our selection of reed blanks (tied-on only, non-scraped reeds) gives oboists an opportunity to try out several different Roseau Chantant shapes.
