Kunibert Michel Gouging Machine for Oboe

This is probably the most famous gouging machine in existence. One of the greatest craftsmen in the oboe world, Mr. Kunibert Michel (1938-2015) developed his new gouging machine in the 1970s. His impact on the manufacture of machines and tools for cane processing and reed making is the most significant in the recent history of the instrument.

All the gouging machines are, as they always have been, hand-made by Charly, Michel’s employee, who joined the company in 1979. This machine offers the highest level of quality and precision, and is also designed to be easily « customizable ».

Cor anglais Cane Selection (European Standard)

For tube cane with a diameter of 11.5 – 12mm, choose a machine with a cane bed (centre / sides) ratio of:

• 12mm bed with 12.80mm blade (more resistant)
• 12mm bed with 13mm blade (fairly resistant)
• 12mm bed with 13.20mm blade (flexible)

For tube cane with a diameter of 12. – 12.5mm, choose a machine with a cane bed (centre / sides) ratio of:

• 12.5mm bed with 13.3mm blade (more resistant)
• 12.5mm bed with 13.5mm blade (fairly resistant)
• 12.5mm bed with 13.7mm blade (flexible)

North American Gouge (Warning: this is not compatible with the gouges for shorter, European, scrapes)

• 12mm bed with 12mm blade (standard resistance, standard American gouge)
• 12mm bed with 11.8mm blade (harder resistance, harder American gouge)
