The Howarth company
The Howarth name was first associated with wind instrument manufacture in 1874, when George Howarth apprenticed with instrument maker Alexander Liddle in London. George was the father of T.W. (Tom) Howarth, whose name became the company’s official name – T. W. Howarth & Co Ltd – when it was established in 1948. In 2008, the firm changed its name to Howarth of London Ltd, to reflect its expanded business and growing international repuation.
Today, Howarth of London is internationally recognized as the manufacturer of some of the very finest oboes, oboes d’amore and Cors anglais in the world. Furthermore, the company is also considered a leading manufacturer of bassoons, clarinets, and saxophones. The Howarth London showrooms boast a comprehensive range of instruments, accessories and woodwind sheet music, and are a convivial meeting place for musicians from all over the world.
