Le Roseau Chantant is pleased to present the new generation of its straight-cane shapers

Straight-cane shapers are much simpler and more comfortable to use. They offer greater reliablity in shaping a conical form, but are slightly less precise than a parallel shape. Each small imperfection in the gouged cane can be reflected in the finished reed. The most commonly-used straight-cane shapers are parallel, with 8 to 10 mm in the centre, at the focal point of the scrape – also the most sensitively vibrating part. Le Roseau Chantant « new generation » shapers offer the primary advantage of improving the precision both of the cane shaping and the reed mounting (tying on) processes.
Based on a simple mathematical principle, the shaped cane is slightly flattened, which minimises the risk of the two blades crossing during the mounting process.
These « ears » on the shaped cane will be appreciated by those who prefer a wider shape, and will also allow for a greater volume of air without compromising upper register stability and response. If you prefer, however, they can easily be removed once the reed is mounted and has fully dried. All of our new generation shapers are now available from Le Roseau Chantant under the following references: RC11*, RC12*, RC13*, RC14*, and RC15*; along with shapers for Cor anglais under the following references: RC1, RC1N, RC1N*, RC2, and RC3.
