Le Roseau Chantant harvests its own cane between December and the end of February in the world-famous Camargue region of southern France. This region is a nature reserve and a refuge for rare birds, plants and animals. The land, with its rich alluvial Rh\u00f4ne Delta soil and high silica content, is excellent for growing Arundo Donax (a.k.a. giant reewindd \/ wild cane). The Mistral wind from the Alps, combined with moisture from the Mediterranean, produces cane of ideal quality for all oboists.<\/p>\n

Densities<\/h5>\n

Le choix du Roseau Chantant selection is available in three different densities: Hard Density (HD), Medium Density (MD) and Softer Density (SD).<\/p>\n

Density and drying method<\/h5>\n

We dry the cane in two different ways: by wind, and by sun exposure:
\n1. Wind-dried cane
\n2. Sun-dried cane<\/p>\n

The fibres of the wind-dried cane remain softer and more pliable compared with those of sun-dried cane.
\nWe use wind-dried cane for our “Softer Density” (SD) category).
\nWe use sun-dried cane for our Hard Density (HD) and Medium Density (MD) categories.<\/p>\n

Please note that all the cane is fully seasoned and ready for immediate use.<\/em><\/p>\n

The gouged cane comes in bundles of 10 pieces.<\/p>\n

Performing these operations on soaked cane would distort the collected data (thickness can increase by up to 0.01mm – 0.02mm when wet).<\/em><\/p>\n
