    \n\t<\/i>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>These shapers leave ‘ears’ on the cane similar to those left when using folded-cane shapers. This allows for a greater volume of air without compromising upper register stability and response.<\/span><\/div><\/li>

    Straight-cane shapers are much simpler and more comfortable to use. They offer greater reliablity in shaping a conical form, but are slightly less precise than a parallel shape. Each small imperfection in the gouged cane can be reflected in the finished reed. The most commonly-used straight-cane shapers are parallel, with 8 to 10 mm in the centre, at the focal point of the scrape – also the most sensitively vibrating part. Le Roseau Chantant \u00ab new generation \u00bb shapers offer the primary advantage of improving the precision both of the cane shaping and the reed mounting (tying on) processes.<\/div>\n

    These \u00ab ears \u00bb on the shaped cane will be appreciated by those who prefer a wider shape, and will also allow for a greater volume of air without compromising upper register stability and response. If you prefer, however, they can easily be removed once the reed is mounted and has fully dried.
